Campaigners Say No To Cannabis Reclassification

There will be confusion if cannabis were to be reclassified again, according to campaigners. The UK’s Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs has reported that the drug is connected to mental disorders. This may result in a reclassification of the drug again in less than three years. It had been classified as a Class C substance in the year 2003. An education campaign with regard to the use of the drug has to be conducted, as it can worsen the schizophrenia condition. The existing classification is being insisted upon by drugs campaigners.

After the reclassification of the drug, its use among the younger generation has declined, according to Martin Barnes, of DrugScope. In spite of its reclassification, dealing with the drug continues to be illegal. Most doctors in the country consider it a menace as it leads to mental problems, even though it can be used to treat conditions like multiple sclerosis and chronic arthritis. Heavy and habitual users of the drug can end up developing mental problems. The drug should never be used for recreational purposes. Making the drug illegal will result in arthritis patients having to travel to other countries where it is legal. The supply of the drug however needs to be controlled.
