Indonesia urges a grant of $1 billion for bird flu

Indonesian Social Welfare Minister Aburizal Bakrie, has urged the international community to fund $ 1 billion as a grant to Indonesia to help them fight bird flu which has killed eleven people in their country. Recently, the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launched the “Village Preparedness” project which involves more than million of villagers in a flu monitoring system which will help in early reporting bird flu symptoms and outbreak.

Bird flu outbreak in Indonesia as caused several deaths and huge loss to the poultry industry as more than million of chickens were either killed due to bird flu infection or culled in poultries due to fear of bird flu. The Health Minister as announced that the village surveillance for reporting symptoms of flu as been set up and all villages in the country will be under surveillance.
