Mammography units and up gradation and tax cuts on diagnostic equipments in Hospitals

Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss as assured the radiologist during the 59th Annual Conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) held at Chennai that the current 12% tax on radiology equipments will be reduced and all said that all diagnostic equipment in Government hospitals will be repaired and upgraded and added that Mammography units will be set up in all Government hospitals which would aid in early diagnosis of breast cancer as it has become importantly necessary for women to undergo mammogram every 6 months for early diagnosis of breast cancer.

Mr. Ramadoss as said that he will talk with Finance minister Dr. Chidambaram on reducing the tax of radiology equipments. On this occasion, Dr. Doda took charge as the President of IRIA. President of National Board of Examinations A. Rajasekharan as urged that the infrastructure in medical schools as to be improved so that the students get well trained using these equipments and urged that the government should encourage the Indian laboratory equipment manufacturers which will reduce the cost of these equipments.
