An American woman who had gone into coma when she was four months pregnant, had been proclaimed as brain dead, and was on life support. Susan Torres, 26, had given birth to a two-month premature daughter, while being on life support.

The medical practitioners of the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington had kept her on the machines for three months after she was pronounced brain dead, for the sake of her unborn child. Susan was admitted to the hospital after she suffered a massive stroke from aggressive melanoma that had spread in her brain.

The father of the child, Jason, had given up on his job to be at the side of his wife and had run into huge medical expenses to keep the life support system going for his wife to be able to deliver the baby. Susan Anne Catherine Torres was delivered yesterday by a c-section and weighs only 800gms. The hospital authorities at the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital are monitoring her. Her uncle had said in a press release that the baby is doing well.

The hospital authorities or the Torres family are yet to make an announcement regarding the condition of Susan Torres.
