‘Operation Smile’, may Need to Smile Without Jessica Simpson

by Dr. Sunil Shroff on May 20 2007 8:53 AM

Jessica Simpson may have stopped supporting ‘Operation Smile’ that she has been supporting for the last 10 years.

Operation Smile is a not-for-profit volunteer medical private organization that provides complex reconstructive surgery and related health care to children and young adults in developing countries and the United States who may have been born with birth defects like cleft- lip or palate.

Operation Smile was founded by Dr. William P. Magee, a plastic surgeon, and his wife, Kathleen, a nurse and clinical social worker. Operation Smile coordinates more than 30 Medical Mission sites in 25 countries annually. Last year, medical volunteers provided free surgeries for 9,334 children through international and local, in-country medical missions.

The singer has not contributed anything for the last one year and recently she has refused to have her picture taken for the organization’s commemorative book.

"She's turned her back on them. She got a lot of good publicity from the charity but refused to let pictures of her be in the commemorative book and hasn't done anything with them in a year.” The New York Post quoted a source

Jessica’s representative has however refuted this claim and said that Simpson was in Germany. She is being honored at the UNESCO Gala to Benefit Children in Need, in Germany. The representative said: ‘partly for her work with Operation Smile. Jess was one of four people who are being honored for their philanthropic work. She sang two songs, and the event raised about three million dollars to build schools all over the world’.
