Suspicions that Pakistan’s cricket coach Bob Woolmer might have been murdered are strengthening.
A bone in his had been found broken and it indicates that he might have been strangled in his hotel room, it is claimed.Less than 24 hours after Pakistan’s stunning defeat at the hands of Ireland in the World Cup preliminaries on Saturday, the legendary Woolmer was found unconscious in his room in Kingston, Jamaica. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Yesterday Jamaican police had said the death was being treated as suspicious, but they did not reveal any details.
But today a Jamaican newspaper reported, "A high-ranking police officer confirmed that fresh evidence has surfaced, suggesting that Woolmer was strangled in his room at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel between Saturday night and Sunday morning." "A bone in the neck, near the glands, was broken and this suggests that somebody might have put some pressure on it," a report in 'Jamaica Gleaner' said. A reporter of 'Radio Jamaica', Rohan Powell, also claimed that the former England cricketer could have been strangulated.
"I made contact with the ongoing investigation. Police will tell the public and journalists that the cause of death was strangulation", the reporter predicted It was also reported that the Pakistani team was interrogated last night and there was a question mark over the players being allowed to leave Jamaica as initially scheduled on Saturday.
Other reports said that the police had found traces of poison on the floor of Woolmer's hotel room. Woolmer, based in Cape Town, South Africa, was a diabetic and also suffered from a sleeping disorder where the patient stops breathing while sleeping. Two detectives of Scotland Yard would proceed to Jamaica to assist in the investigations, London reports say.
