Bird Flu Again at Korean Farm

by Medindia Content Team on Jan 22 2007 2:04 PM

Korean officials seem to be unhappy with the recent efforts to curb bird flu as a fifth outbreak has occurred at a poultry farm around 100 km from the capital Seoul.

Officials report decisions to cull around 270,000 birds from the farm and others within 500 m radius of the farm.

After a 3-year absence the virulent strain H5N1 has reappeared in Korea.

The highly pathogenic bird flu has been around since 2003, in more than 50 countries and has resulted in the death of around 157 persons.

Officials state that there is no case of human bird flu associated with the recent outbreak.
