Chandigarh: Children, pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls in Haryana will receive more supplementary support from the state government for their nutritional needs.

Social Welfare and Health Minister Kartar Devi Monday announced enhanced quantum for supplementary nutritional needs provided to these categories under the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) scheme.

She said 1.1 million children below the age of six and 300,000 pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls would gain from the move.

The minister said that women self-help groups in villages will be allowed to make purchases for supply of supplementary nutrition instead of the centralised system earlier.

The food menu will also be decided by these groups at the local level. The self-help groups would function under village panchayats, she added.
