Laura Bush Makes Light of Cancer News

by Savitha C Muppala on Dec 25 2006 6:19 PM

Having a chat during "Face the Nation", a CBS News' program, on Sunday, U.S. first lady Laura Bush, did not make much about her recovery from skin cancer or the media’s unawareness about it. She said she was feeling fine after the squamous cell carcinoma, a cancerous growth was surgically removed from her skin.

The first lady said, "It just didn't occur to me. Also, of course, I am a private citizen. I mean, I have to say that as well. I don't release the results of my regular physicals like the president does, of course."

Confessing that it had been a trying period for herself, President Bush and all of United States, she said, "And I think this year, especially, watching the violence in Iraq is difficult for Americans and difficult for people around the world to watch. And certainly our worry -- all of us, not just the president's and mine but everybody's -- about our troops who are deployed made this year difficult."
