by Savitha C Muppala on Dec 25 2006 3:14 PM

According to reports from World Health Organization (WHO), an Egyptian woman succumbed to bird flu. With this, the total number of human deaths due to bird flu has gone up to eight, since March 2006.

The woman aged 30 years had been admitted to Cairo's Abbasiyafever hospital on Saturday, but she was detected with H5N1 barely a few hours before she died. Though she had been under the care of the rural hospital ever since mid- December, Doctors had not checked her out for bird flu, as the patient had confirmed that she had no contact with poultry.

Two other close relatives of this woman who were also taken ill have been tested positive for bird-flu. Their condition is said to be stable.
