Korean Varsities Seek Partnership With AIIMS

by VR Sreeraman on Dec 17 2006 12:50 AM

A clutch of Korean universities plan to collaborate with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in education, training, research and student exchange.

Representatives from the Korea University, the Korea Open National University and the Kyungnam Education council visited AIIMS Friday to discuss several aspects of a probable partnership.

"The special areas of interest from the Korean delegation were elective training programmes in the field of undergraduate and postgraduate training, nursing education, bio-technology, physiotherapy and research," said Shakti Gupta, the media in-charge at AIIMS.

R.C. Deka, the dean-academics, and several department heads of AIIMS participated in discussions with the visiting team.

"It was decided to have more discussions to work out the modalities for exchange of faculty and students and collaborative research in various fields that are of common interest to both," Gupta told IANS.

In October, international magazine Newsweek had profiled AIIMS as one of the top 10 hospitals of the world by calling it "an oasis for India's poorest".
