Glowing Tribute to Obesity Clinic in Glasgow

Glasgow Weight Management Service caters to the needs of about 1,000 people annually. The National Obesity Forum awarded the Primary Care Award for Excellence in Weight Management 2006 to Glasgow Royal Infirmary clinic. Judges admired the high standards that were maintained by this clinic. Glowing compliments were showered upon the team of personnel, that offer simple,yet comprehensive solutions to treat obesity.

The holistic approach of the clinic,towards treating obese patients was highly appreciated. Instead of just a diet plan, patients who approach this clinic are offered a wholesome combination of exercises and a balanced diet with appropriate psychological counselling as well.

The in-house clinical psychologist,Dr Susan Boyle explained that the clinic aims to prepare the patients to deal with negative habits that impair a healthy approach to life. This includes equipping patients with skills that will help them to control cravings and inculcate healthy eating habits.

The clinic began functioning in 2004.Since then it has had over 2,400 referrals.Heath officials set up this clinic in Glasgow,intending to help people who are disheartened by their excessive weight.Surgery is resorted to only as a last attempt,at this clinic.

Clinical sessions, span over two to three months. Psychotherapy and physiotherapy are congenially mixed together as part of the therapy.
