TV nutritionist Banned from Sale of Sex Aids

by Neela George on Nov 22 2006 5:59 PM

American TV nutritionist Gillian McKeith has been reprimanded by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory authority (MHRA) for the sale of herbal sex aids without a license. The authority said there was a lack of evidence to show that they work.

Gillian McKeith, the star of Channel 4’s You Are What You Eat, has been asked to withdraw these products. The products, Fast Formula Wild Pink for women and Fast Formula Horny for men, which promised to boost sex drive and cure sexual dysfunction, have since been removed. The authority determined that both products were medicines because of the presence of some well-known medicinal herbs and because of the claims being made by McKeith Research Ltd in their products.

However since only licensed medicines can be advertised, they were violating MHRA norms. Ms McKeith s credentials as a scientist came under suspicion as it was revelead that she had obtained a PhD from the non-accredited American Holistic College of Nutrition in the United States. The college itself sells its own range of alternative health products online. Ms Mckeith was unavailable for comment through her agent last night.

The company can reapply for a medicine licence and will have to prove that the products conform to safety standards.”
