Adequate Ground Work before a Pandemic Necessary

by Savitha C Muppala on Nov 12 2006 4:41 PM

A woman in Connecticut is making news stock piling for a potential flu pandemic, since she feels the threat is looming, so it is better to be adequately prepared for it. Stocks have been hoarded in the pantry and garage of her home, which is filled up to tide over a severe calamity.

"We probably have preps for three months in this area. I might be a little bit overkill but people are not prepared," says Marina, the homeowner.

Having witnessed the problems post 9/11 in New York, when there was panic after stocks depleted, she has said it is extremely naïve and silly, if one is not prepared for an emergency.

She uses the site, flutrackers.com and vouches for its reliability in enabling the exact status of bird flu. In her estimate, bird-flu is just like a ticking time-bomb, waiting to explode. The only question is ‘when’ and not ‘if’, she says. She believes in anticipation and planning adequately, which will be the only way to tide over a crisis.
