New Record Set By Orissa On Blood Donation

Orissa Red Cross Society jointly with Ama Odisha organization has set a new record in blood donation breaking the previous record of 2,002 units donated on a single day.

The chairman of Ama Odisha told the newspersons on Thursday that the previous record was broken twice during the week-long drive that was launched between 25-31st October covering 181 centres across Orissa.

He also added that the drive created a lot of enthusiasm among youngsters and a new record of 2,017 units was registered on 26th October and was broken by 31st October donations crossing 3,074 units.

Orissa Red Cross Society secretary Rabiratna Das said that last year the count was 2,09,925 units of blood from the Orissa state, of which 1,14,748 units had come from voluntary donation. He also added that the voluntary donation is the best possible way to fulfil the state's requirement of safe blood, not a single HIV-positive case was detected from the voluntarily donated blood last year as the blood collected underwent 5 tests including one for HIV.
