Current Dengue and Chikungunya Status in India

In a press release the Ministry of Health has indicated the current situation with both these viral infections in India. In its update on Dengue the Ministry has confirmed reports of 9453 cases and 157 deaths as a whole including Delhi as on 04.11.2006 upto 12 .30 hrs.

In Delhi and NCR - one of the worst affected areas there were a total of 2872 cases and 59 deaths have been reported from Delhi, NCR and other states. There were 1770 cases on Delhi.

Apart from Delhi , upto 04.11.2006, the maximum number of dengue cases have been reported from Rajasthan (1224) followed by Punjab (922), west Bengal (864), Kerala (853), Uttar Pradesh (605), Maharashtra (582), Gujarat (477), Haryana (409), Tamil Nadu (328), Andhra Pradesh (110) and Karnataka (92).

Reporting on CHIKUNGUNYA situation on 04.11.2006; the Ministry has indicated a total number of 1695 confirmed cases with no deaths. A total number of 40 cases have been reported from Delhi and NCR region. Apart from Delhi , the maximum number of confirmed Chikungunya cases have been reported from Maharashtra (684) followed by Karnataka (294), Andhra Pradesh (248), Gujarat (170), Tamil Nadu (116), Madhya Pradesh (70), Kerala (38), Rajasthan (24) and Pondicherry (9).
