British women have been found to be more irritable than their male counterparts in the morning in a study conducted by the Sleep Council in Britain. The study revealed that women were grumpier than men when they woke up and they remained in that state of mind for longer than men.

In the survey, 13% of the women were in a bad temper while waking up and remain in that mood for up to 4 hours when compared to 10% of the men.

Jessica Alexander, a spokeswoman for the council said, "Many more men than women claim to get a good seven nights sleep a week, so perhaps it is not surprising that more women than men get out of bed on the wrong side."

The reason for the grumpiness was given as a disturbed night by 40% of the women and stress and worry were the reasons given by 24% of them

According to the study, Londoners were the most irritable. 7nights of good sleep was experienced by just 7 % of the people questioned in the North East and Yorkshire. The study was conducted on 2,105 adults.
