Federal government of Australia came under the glaring critics of the opposition party for severely falling short in its allocation of funds for various health promotion programs.

The Labor party has blatantly pointed fingers at the current government for lapses pertaining to health program budgets spanning a spectrum of avenues that ranges from rural medical facilities pharmaceuticals and after hour care which has apparently robbed the Australian citizen of their basic dues in the health frontier.

The present government has been accused of massively cutting short the funds to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) estimated to be almost 8 million dollars in the fiscal year 2005-2006.

The policies of the present government seem to further close the door for the needy and poorer sections of the society with the current trend in rise in prices of common medications. The health department has failed to utilize the $14 million allocated to it for the expansion of rural primary care and training of GP's for the same the opposition party spokesperson Ms Gillard has said.

Recent figures divulged by the Department of Health and Ageing also shows a deficit of around 45 million dollars that should have been utilized for the welfare and health of the residents from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island The government has glibly defended itself by blaming the short comings on various technical grounds ranging from transportation shortages to shortage in availability of manpower. Even areas like the sudden invasion of avian flu, which has been reasonably focused upon shows gross figures of unspent funds.

The point raised against the government was that every dollar that trickles into the government’s coffers is precious and should be ensured that it reaches the public without doubt and without failure in the form of benefits failing which the trust which Australians have placed in the government will be mutilated.
