No Chikungunya Deaths In Kerala

The Kerala Health Department today clarified that so far no chikungunya deaths were reported in the state. Director of Health Services T.K. Kuttamani said that three death attributed to chikungunya were infact natural deaths due to age-related illnesses.

Mukundan, 71 at Vavallichira, Cherthala ded from chronic renal disease, while Aleykkutty, 92, of Thuravoor, and Selvi, 81, of Kollekkattu also died of natural causes. National Vector-borne Disease Control Programme director P.N. Joshi said that chikungunya was not a fatal disease and even though 12 states had reported cases, no deaths were recorded.
