Kochi To Conduct Campaigns Against Chikungunya

by Medindia Content Team on Sep 20 2006 9:03 PM

The Kochi Corporation has announced that it will be conducting a drive against chikungunya. Health workers, volunteers and NGO representatives will visit areas in the city and ask people not to allow water to stagnate in waste bins, bottles and cans.

Mayor Mercy Williams said that this campaign would be conducted regularly since fogging was ineffective in containing the mosquitoes that spread the disease.

The State chapter of the Indian Medical Association said in a statement that people need not panic as chikungunya was curable.
