To control the dangerous rise in HIV/AIDS, owing to the indiscriminate use of injection drugs, The United Nations/Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation communiqué has put forward a recommendation to encourage programs that include methadone replacement, needle exchange and safer injections, with a view to bringing down the rates of the disease.

Taking cues from the report, countries in Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa should begin to take up the clean needle and drug treatment programs, which are known to reduce the risks of HIV/AIDS.
