Doctors at the University of Texas, offer provide some valuable tips on how to keep off a bulging tummy. Even if you are not overweight, you might find it hard to maintain a flat stomach. Some people just have a genetic tendency to accumulate fat in the abdominal area. Or, if you have lost height as you've got older, a rounded stomach might become more apparent.

Don't depend on doing hundreds of sit-ups. All round general exercise is better, for it will reduce the level of body fat and this will tend to flatten the stomach. For the abdominals, you need to exercise the lower and deeper abdominal muscles to make a difference. A good exercise is the pelvic tilt, where you lie on your back, knees bent, and flatten your back against the floor - using the relevant muscles. Hold for five or ten seconds and aim for 10 to 20 repetitions.Standing tall will help too - for slouching makes your stomach more prominent. And beware foods that make you bloat, like beans, cabbage and bran.
