More and more cases of dengue are being reported from Rajasthan, officials say. According to the health department, this month the city hospitals are treating 20 patients with symptoms of dengue. Last month the number was 15.
Doctors say the maximum number of cases have been reported from Dholpur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts.With dengue spreading its tentacles in the state, the government has stepped up measures to control the disease.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection that has become an international public health concern.
A senior official of the health department told IANS: "Doctors are asking people to wear full-sleeved clothes and also use mosquito repellents."
According to the WHO, the dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the female of Aedes mosquitoes.
Dengue fever is a severe, flu-like illness that affects infants, young children and adults, but seldom causes death. The clinical features vary according to the age of the patient. Infants and young children may have a non-specific febrile illness with rash.
