A Christchurch surgeon has put forth the idea that it would do well to reduce bureaucracy in hospital administration, an idea that had earlier been opposed and led to the removal of 5100 patients from the waiting list.
The Canterbury District Health Board had removed the patients from waiting lists and referred tem to the general practitioners to comply with the Health ministry policy. Nearly Seventy-four of the DHB's 80 surgeons have put on paper their disappointment regarding the dissolution of the waiting list. Infact Phil Bagshaw, a member of this fraternity has said that money going into the bureaucracy should be diverted to perform elective surgeries, and cater to the immediate needs of the patients.
