The study that was presented at the World Congress of Cardiology stated that as little as two servings of eight grams of nuts that would be around a small plate full might reduce the risk of heart disease by as much as 11%.
Another survey confirmed that eating a small quantity of the same kinds of nuts five days a week only results in a little bit of weight gain.
The latest study is part of a larger European study that had begun 10 years ago, to discover the connection between diet, cancer and heart disease. The varieties of nuts that have been included in the study were almonds, walnuts, cashews, Brazilian nuts and traditional peanuts. Yet another study had previously also confirmed that the consumption of a small amount of these same nuts 5 days a week could only cause a very little weight gain.
Professor Elio Riboli, professor of cancer epidemiology at Imperial College, London said, 'You could say that a modest consumption of nuts contributed to reducing myocardial infarction. He did however stated that "But there is no point sitting in front of the TV, being obese and having high blood pressure and expecting nuts to protect you against a heart attack.'
