Reuters quoted Roshni Mulani, a mother of a two-year-old child, as saying it was tough since nobody stepped forward to help her. "The hospital had no sympathy for me as I had to pull out the fetus with my hands and clean myself as health workers guided me from a distance. They read about my HIV status from medical reports and threw medicines from a distance," said Mulani.
AIDS activist Ramen Pandey has given shelter to Mulani and she is said to be recovering at his home. "Many health workers in India still think AIDS can spread by just touching," Pandey said.
Meanwhile in Orissa, a man was stone by people for the fear that he would spread the HIV virus. Authorities are investigating both incidents.
