Queensland Health Holding Back Dental Patients' HIV Results

by Medindia Content Team on Aug 28 2006 5:18 PM

Queensland Health is obstinate about holding back the HIV tests of dental patients in North Quensland. The trigger for this move came about after Dr Young, a dentist working at Bowen and Collinsville hospitals, tested positive for HIV. This episode sparked off large scale testing of patients. Nearly 120 patients have already been screened for HIV.

Queensland Health's Dr Jeannette Young expressed that despite some patients getting access to the results, the information will be kept under wraps.

"There is no public interest, there is no need for knowing this to trace other people. So for these results as they come through, I can't give you results whether they're negative, positive, whatever, I absolutely can't do that." Dr Young said.
