
International experts from the worlds of academia, research, government and industry will gather here next month to discuss how state-of-the-art communications technology can make healthcare accessible and affordable.
E-health is an emerging field that encompasses a range of health services and information such as electronic medical records, telemedicine, citizen-oriented information provision and virtual healthcare teams.
These services are delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies with the aim of improving healthcare locally, regionally and globally.
Alongside the event, a global exposition on the telemedicine and e-health industry will be organised from Aug 17 to 22.
Apart from this, the Telemedicine Society of India will host its second national conference from Aug 20 to 22.
Participants at Healthcom2006 will include clinicians, hospital administrators, software developers, researchers, educators, healthcare system vendors, and consultants intending to discuss "Emerging Challenges and Solutions for e-Health in the World".
Among the topics to be discussed are mobile telemedicine, tele-homecare and ubiquitous healthcare, tele-presence and robotics for healthcare, ambulatory and disaster applications, e-health initiatives of world bodies, international standards, developing software for healthcare.
E-health encompasses the application of information and communications technologies across a whole range of functions in the health sector, from doctors to hospital managers, data processing specialists, social security administrators and patients.
