Meghalaya Health Minister Admitted to Hospital With Malaria

After returning from malaria-prone Garo Hills region, Meghalaya Health mininster E D Marak was today hospitalised with symptoms of the same disease.

Marak, who returned from the Garo hills on Saturday, was admitted to the civil hospital here with malaria this morning, his son told PTI.

The Health minister had accompanied chief minister J D Rymbai on his two-day tour to West Garo Hills district town Tura.

Malaria had claimed 40 lives in Meghalaya since January, the health minister had told the assembly on July 5.

Of the 40 deaths, 11 were reported from West Garo hills, seven from South Garo, six from East Garo hills, nine from West Khasi, four from East Khasi and three deaths from Ri-Bhoi districts, he had said.
