Need To Promote Awareness To Control Population

R. Ashok, Health Minister of Karnataka said that around 176 babies are born each minute worldwide. He was addressing a program on the occasion of World Population Day. The program was organized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Rashtriya Grameen Arogya Abhiyan in Bangalore.

"With the increase in population, the problems faced by people have increased. Population should be controlled in the interest of a healthy society, and the Department of Health and Family Welfare has introduced several programmes in this regard," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya, said that it was a need to control population. He added that the infant mortality rate (IMR) in the state had increased and measures must be taken to protect against it.

"IMR was lowest in areas with high literacy rates, such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts," he said.
