Cord Blood Stem Cells Can Now be Stored in India
Worried about suffering from terminal disorders, here is a cure for you. Store cord blood stem cells at the time of the birth of your child to ensure a speedy recovery for your family.

Cryobanks International today announced the launch of the first cord blood stem cell in India which will store the cells for posterity.

"Umblical cord blood contains millions of stem cells that can be used in many ways to treat several disorders, including leukemia, anemia, heart disorders and neurological diseases," Naresh Trehan, an advisor to Cryobanks International (India), told reporters here.

The cord blood cell bank has been set up at Gurgaon where cells would be kept in state-of-the-art nitrogen vapour tanks at -190 degrees Celsius for long term storage.

The cells have widely recognised as a safe, effective and a preferable altenative to bone marrow transplant, Dwight Brunoehler, President and Founder of Cryobanks International said.

The cord blood has to be collected after the birth of a child. It can be obtained painlessly and risk free by inserting a needle into the umblical vein after cleansing the umblical cord.

The cells could be stored at the cryobank for a fee of about Rs 60,000 for a period of 21 years. The cells can be retrieved anytime from the bank to treat disorders.

The cells can also be donated to the bank, in which case they would be used for research purposes.

Cryobanks' Indian operations is a joint venture with the RJ Corp, promoted by Ravi Jaipuria.
