As many as eight persons have succumbed to chikun gunya at Kandamanur village near here within a span of four days and two members of each family have been affected by the viral fever, local government officials claimed.
Demanding that the government take immediate steps to contain the spread of the virus, vice chairperson of Mayuladumparai panchayat union, Muthamizh Selvi Arivazhagan told PTI that majority members of the village were farm labourers.

Around 3000 families are residing at Kandamanur. They were not provided proper medical facilities also, she said.
The panchayat officials have also appealed to the District Administration to take immediate steps
