UK doctor Charged By GMC For Professional Misconduct

The General Medical Council (GNC) UK is now investigating Dr Wakefield over claims of serious professional misconduct.

The research that was led by Dr Andrew Wakefield and subsequently published in The Lancet in 1998, had sparked a health scare when it had suggested that their might exist a causal link between the combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) injection with autism and bowel problems.

Reports now indicate that the GMC is now charging Dr. Andrew Wakefield, for having published an 'inadequately founded' research, for having not obtained the approval of the ethical committee, and for having obtained funds that they deemed improper, and for subjecting children to needless and wide-ranging investigations.

Reports have though suggested that there are no major studies to prove the link between vaccinations and autism, there have been smaller tests conduced in America that would seem to substantiate Dr. Wakefield's findings. The immunization rates had dropped sharply after publication of his report, but have since returned to their previous levels.
