Brazilian Women to Be Vaccinated To Prevent Uterine Cancer

Human Papilloma virus is a major cause of uterine cancer. According to the statistics it was found that the HPV causes 70 % of Brazil's uterine cancer cases. Hence the Brazilian government plans to test the new Gardasil vaccine which treats HPV. After the positive test results then the government plans to release the vaccine in the market. Brazilian health officials are planning to conduct a campaign to vaccinate Brazilian women against the human Papilloma virus (HPV).

Luiz Antonio Santini, director of Brazil's National Cancer Institute said that about 50 % of the sexually active women in Brazil have the virus. The vaccine is waiting approval from the National Sanitary Vigilance Agency (Anvisa) for sale in Brazil. Prior to that the Brazil's health authorities plan to conduct a study to find out what types of HPV are most common in different regions of the country. The vaccine has already been approved for sale in US and it costs about 120 U.S. dollars. Patients have to receive three doses of the vaccination to make it effective. The vaccine is very costly as of now but its price would reduce if the production increased.
