Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss had stated yesterday that the Centre is proposing to set up two public health schools to help create awareness among the people about health issues.
Explaining that the government was planning to set up a world class project, having faculty members and experts from US and other countries, he said the project would be set up on about 50 acres of land, with the estimated cost of the project being around 100 crore.Addressing the press after his meeting with the Tamil Nadu Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran, Ramadoss stated that several state projects were discussed, and that Tamil Nadu has decided to sanction the required land for the project that would be set up near Chennai. He also said that the CM’s of both AP and Maharashtra have also shown interest in he project.
Ramadoss also announced that the state would get an assistance of Rs 75 crore, this year as against last year's assistances of Rs 45 crore towards the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and another Rs 50 crore for the development of Kanchi Cancer Hospital.
Meanwhile it has been reported that in T.Nadu a rare form of fever called Chickungunya that causes joint pains is affecting people in the inner pockets of the state. The fever usually lasts for about 12 days is spread by a species of mosquitoes called Aedes Aegypti. This fever was originally reported in Africa. Having no preventive vaccine, this fever is believed to have spread to Tamil Nadu from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, where many people have been affected in the past year.
The administration has claimed that they have everything under control. There is a rush for Paracetamol and painkillers in government hospitals. The collector of Salem N Madhivanan explained that it was not a killer disease, and at the maximum a person would suffer for around 12 days before it subsides.
K K S S R Ramachandran, Health Minister, Tamil Nadu, has explained that they are doing their best to stop the spread of the disease. Urging the people to remain calm he said that medical teams are already visiting the affected districts to ensure that mosquitoes do not breed.
