Delhi Police summoned three doctors of the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital for questioning Tuesday over charges they fudged information on the condition of Rahul Mahajan, who was admitted to the hospital in serious condition of suspected drug overdose.
"We have summoned the doctors and the questioning is on," said Suman Nalwa, assistant commissioner of police, heading the probe against the hospital.According to senior officials, Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, was treated by these doctors. They suspect the doctors had hidden some of the vital details of the case from the police team.
Rahul was admitted to the hospital in the early hours of June 2 in a serious condition following a drink-and-drugs party. He was in the hospital till June 5, the day he was arrested after being discharged from the hospital.
Bibek Moitra, a close aide of Pramod Mahajan, had died of suspected drug overdose after the late night binge at 7, Safdarjung Road, the official residence of the senior Mahajan.
Police questioned Prasad Rao, who headed the team that gave medical attention to Rahul Mahajan, Anupam Sibal, medical director of Apollo, and Mukund Pandey, a senior doctor, said Nalwa.
"We suspect the hospital had purposely hidden information about the treatment given to Mahajan," said Nalwa.

"We are also planning to summon Rahul Mahajan for questioning but the date of questioning has not been finalised yet."

"We registered a case against the hospital under Section 182 of the Indian Penal Code," said a senior police official. The case was registered at the Sarita Vihar police station in south Delhi on the directions of the court.
The hospital had initially maintained that Rahul Mahajan's toxic screen test revealed no trace of any narcotics in his blood and urine samples. However, the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory found traces of illegal drugs like heroin and cocaine in the blood samples of Mahajan and Moitra.
