by Medindia Content Team on Jun 8 2006 7:37 PM

Intel has decided to extend its innovation beyond manufacturing computer chips. Now, the mega giant is all set to team up with other medical and healthcare companies’ towards providing quality healthcare . Intel, Cisco Systems, Medtronic, and seven others have joined hands to enable high-end healthcare services to the public.

The Continua Health Alliance, led by Intel will seek to effectively merge electronics with healthcare. The outcome of this alliance will not only aim to reduce healthcare costs but also help realize a time when technology will enable people to transfer valuable health data wirelessly to be stored in their computer devices as well as transmitted to the medical specialists, to enable timely medical intervention.

This would also mean that consumers need not run to clinics when they are unwell. They could be treated at their homes and monitored adequately. This alliance certainly holds promise for the Healthcare Industry, as it is a chip of the old block!
