The Clinical Oncological Society of Australia(COSA), which conducted a review of country hospitals found that 38 percent of them utilized staff with little or no training, to administer chemotherapy to cancer patients. The society also indicated that the practice posed a risk to these patients.

According to COSA’s Craig Underhill, ‘There's a risk that the patient (might) be under-dosed, so they have a non-effective treatment. Conversely, if too much dose is given then the patient would suffer unnecessarily with side effects.’ ‘There's a risk that the quality of the outcome is going to be inferior.’he added. COSA has sent the reports to the concerned ministers.

Meanwhile, the Rural Doctors Association has warned that in five years there would be an acute shortage of obstetricians in the country. It is reported that the standard of rural birthing in australia was similar to that of the third world.
