ESI to Set Up Four Super Speciality Hospitals

Kolkata: The Employees' State Insurance Corporation would set up four super speciality hospitals in four zones of the country in order to provide specialised medical care to those covered under its scheme.

'These facilities will be set up at New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and in either Mumbai or Pune,' ESI director general Ramesh Inder Singh said today.

He said, however, these facilities could either be totally new ones or existing ESI hospitals would be upgraded.

A central government agency has been asked to undertake a study to find out which branches of medical care would be established in each of these hospitals and the total cost for setting up these facilities, Singh said.

'The agency has already started working on the Hyderabad facility and the study report on it is expected soon,' he said.

Speciality services for patients covered under its scheme are at present being outsourced by the ESI hospitals, but these facilities would be provided in house once these hospitals are set up.

'Funds for setting up these facilities would not be a constraint as long as we can provide quality service to our members,' Singh said.
