New Delhi. Serious differences cropped up among the agitating medicos today on the future course of their anti-reservation stir in view of a stern warning by the Supreme Court to resume duties immediately.
A section of the protestors, mostly resident doctors, are favoring suspension of the strike to honor the apex court direction, while others say the court order is not binding on them as it was not addressed to medical students.Sources said heated arguments were also witnessed during two back-to-back General Body Meetings of the medicos held late last night at AIIMS and the decision to continue the stir was taken after a majority vote.
Some of the medicos were of the view that the stir should be suspended since already an application by the Resident Doctors' Association of AIIMS and MAMC containing their concerns on the issue has been filed in the apex court, which was ceased of the matter.
Others opposed the idea, saying since their application was pending with the apex court, and the agitation should not be called off until it was heard.
Against his backdrop, more intense deliberations are expected to take place to iron out the differences among them before taking a final decision on the issue.
The medicos are also mulling over the idea of handing over the anti-reservation agitation to students of other streams like engineers from IIT to escape contempt proceedings from the court.
