Anti-Quota Stir: Resident Docs Demand Experts Panel

Stalemate over the quota issue between government and striking medicos continued today with the resident doctors persisting with their demand of setting up an experts committee to review the reservation policy.

The striking medicos are also expected to meet Union Health Secretary P C Hota later in the day.

The resident doctors association of AIIMS made an appeal to the people to observe a '10 minute dark period' this evening in protest against the 'darkness prevailing in the country'.

'From 8:00 pm to 8:10 pm today we have appealed people to switch off their lights in protest of the dark situation in the country,' Dr Harsh from the AIIMS Residents Doctor's Association said.

The residents, who were served notices to vacate hostels said no action has so far been taken by the authorities towards this end.

'Notices have been issued and circullar is on board. The issue will be decided in a daily review meeting,' an AIIMS official said.

Notice to vacate hostels has also been issued to resident doctors of Lady Harding and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital.

Meanwhile, interviews for recruitment for new doctors at AIIMS is slated for 29th of this month.

Dr N K Chaturvedi, Medical Superintendent of RML hospital said his hospital would also conduct one day interview for recruitment of doctors on 25th of this month.

'But we have advertised for other usual vacancies also,' he said.
