Francine Kaufman, director of the Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles said rightly that in order to curd the rising incidence of diabetes and obesity threatening American children, all factions of society has to unite and fight it.

In her own words, "Nothing is fundamentally harder to do. This will involve some kind of strategy at every level of our lives, including communities, the medical system, workplace, schools, day care centres, the food industry and religious organizations, all promoting healthful activities.”

According to her the adult form, i.e. type 2 diabetes, has been increasing dramatically in children and teens along with a rate of obesity in children that has jumped 300% in the past 30 years.

As per a study in Ohio out of more than 14,000 third-graders assessed, nearly 21% are overweight according to body mass index, or BMI.

Another 17% of third-graders are in the 85th to 95th percentile and considered at-risk of being overweight. Therefore it is high time that all rose to this menace and fight this disease off!!!
