De-addiction Drug Works For Alcoholics Too
According to a study in UK it was found that de- addiction drug help to combat alcoholism. The US National Institutes of Health analyzed 1,383 people with Naltrexone. This drug blocks craving for any sort of drug. The study results were reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association. This drug can be made accessible easily to all people thereby help in reducing the number of alcohol addicts. The two drugs that were tested are naltrexone and acamprosate.

These drugs coupled with combined behavioral intervention (CBI) that counseling drastically changes the lives of many alcoholics. The study was conducted over a period of 16-weeks. For both combinations, the number of alcohol-free days more than tripled from 25% to 80%, compared to an average of 73%. Lead researcher Professor Richard Longabaugh said the now people should come forward to seek help for alcohol problems. This study reveals an effective treatment to a large number of people in UK.
