US Unveils New Rules to Help Citizens Find the Right Health Insurance Plan
The new government-approved format that health insurance companies must provide on their services to Americans, was unveiled on Thursday.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a press release, ‘All consumers, for the first time, will really be able to clearly comprehend the sometimes confusing language insurance plans often use in marketing. This will give them a new edge in deciding which plan will best suit their needs and those of their families or employees.’

The standardized forms will be available beginning Sept. 23 for about 150 million customers with private health insurance.

Consumers can now compare policies and understand coverage through examples that explain how much a plan pays on average for common medical conditions. Also, the fine print has been eliminated by having the information printed in 12 point size type.

However, the policy's price is not mentioned, and the number of coverage examples have been reduced from three to two (delivering a baby and diabetes care).
