 Urgent Action Needed to Meet Dementia Challenge
One of the world’s leading experts on Alzheimer’s disease has claimed that action is to be taken at all levels if the world is to overcome the future challenges posed by dementia.
Speaking at the M V Arunachalam Endowment Oration in Chennai, Britain’s Sube Banerjee, professor of mental health and ageing, Institute of Psychiatry, and Clinical Director, said that it was important to educate the patients on their condition as early as possible as well as improve the health care provided in order to help them as the condition worsens.

“New treatments and ways of preventing dementia need to be developed and tested and health and social policy need to be introduced for people with dementia”, he said, adding that the number of dementia cases across the globe is expected to almost double in the next two decades.
