Union Health Minister J P Nadda Reviews Implementation of “Kayakalp”

Kayakalp is an initiative launched on May 15 by Union Health Minister to promote and encourage every public health facilities to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.

J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare asked the government run health institution to involve civil society and community as stakeholders.
Nadda said this while chairing a meeting of the Directors and Medical Superintendent of the Government Hospitals/Institutions to review the implementation of “Kayakalp”- an initiative to improve public health facilities under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

Reviewing efforts at generating awareness and attitudinal change towards cleanliness, the Health Minister said health institution should invite people, NGOs and voluntary organizations to participate in this endeavor and share the responsibility for cleanliness of the health facility. He suggested that motivational incentives such as awards should also be instituted for them.

The Health Minister was informed about the current status of the implementation of this initiative in various government hospitals and institutions. After comprehensively reviewing the situation the Health Minister directed that personal round by the health officials in hospital premise can improve the cleanliness situation.

The Health Minister said that the induction training as well as on the job training for the housekeeping staffs are also needed for the success of this initiative. He also suggested that the decentralization and self-decision should be promoted with in the hospital administration.

The Minister also emphasized on the establishment of a corpus fund at hospital level for providing greater flexibility to the hospital administration.

Also present at the meeting were the Secretary (Health) B P Sharma, Addl. Secretary and MD, NHM C K Mishra, Addl. Secretary (Health), Arun K. Panda, Addl. Secretary and DG (CGHS), Navreet Singh Kang and other senior officers of the Ministry.
