The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is working to improve the healthcare system for expatriate workers in this country.
The Ministerial Council for Services, in a meeting held Sunday under the chairmanship of Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, called for improving the overall system and procedures for health examination of the expatriate workers in order to ensure errorless results.The council made it clear that the present procedures should be improved and regulatory methods evolved to ensure the capability of healthcare establishments, both in public and private sectors, to carry out faultless health examinations on expatriate workers, the Emirates news agency WAM reported.
It also called for a high level of coordination between government and those establishments enabling the best use of available resources in the country to determine the fitness of every expatriate worker.
The council also reviewed reports presented by the ministry of health on the existing rules and regulations in this regard and reiterated the need to improve them in order to guarantee that every expatriate worker is free from any form of disease threatening public health.
This is the latest in a series of initiatives taken by the UAE government aimed at the welfare of expatriate workers here. Earlier this month, the government opened a hotline to help workers in trouble following a call from the cabinet for a review of workers' salaries and living and working conditions.
