Twitter can Save Lives by Educating People About the Risk Factors of Cardiac Arrest
Popular social networking tool Twitter could be the best way of educating people regarding the risk factors associated with cardiac arrests and thereby saving thousands of lives, researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania said.
The researchers observed the number of cardiac arrest related tweets over a period of one month in the spring of 2011 and found that people usually exchanged a number of tweets regarding cardiac arrests as well as CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) techniques that are in the news.

The researchers said that communicating through Twitter and exchanging knowledge could potentially save thousands of lives.

“Twitter might even be harnessed to save lives in an emergency, by allowing bystanders who respond to cardiac arrests in public places to seek information about the location of the closest AED”, the researchers wrote.
