by Rajashri on Jul 11 2008 2:38 PM

The NHS Informatics Review has said that trusts must be provided with “interim” systems and in some cases they even merit national funding.

This change in stance for the electronic record systems at the National Programme for IT in the NHS has been brought about by unprecedented delays in installing the systems in trusts in the country.

The Department of Health’s former interim chief information officer, Matthew Swindells had led this review, which says good systems are a must of IT is to revolutionize the NHS.

NHS medical director and interim director general for informatics Sir Bruce Keogh admitted the program is facing some issues, “If people start going it alone it could be at a huge opportunity cost," he added.
