Tiny Implant Could Prevent Skin Cancer
A tiny implant developed by an Australian firm help prevent skin cancer.
Users of Scenesse get a bronzed glow without burning within two days - and the effect lasts for two months.

Developer Clinuvel insists that it is for medical use and is not intended for cosmetic tanning.

The implant, the size of a grain of rice, is surgically placed just above the hip.

It then releases an artificial version of a hormone needed for tanning.

This tricks the body into thinking it has been exposed to the sun's rays and triggers a reaction, which forms a protective barrier beneath the skin.

As well as providing defence against skin cancer, it will help people who suffer severe allergic reactions to sunlight.

"We aim for efficacy against several sun-related diseases," the Daily Express quoted Clinuvel's Dr Hank Agersborg as saying.
